Subject: July Update #2

Greetings to all,
We have about 130 folks registered for the reunion and an equal number with room reservations. Keep it up!!!!!!!!
We have contracted five 15 pax vans for the reunion. We will begin with pick ups at the airport on Wed {as well as individual pickups for those arriving earlier}. We plan to charge $10/person each way from the
Tucson airport {folks arriving from Phoenix will be picked up by the hotel van}. We DO have a bus trip or two also planned but that is dependent on the number of interested folks.
The vans will be used to transport folks to the such events as the BBq, banquet and a couple other events at no charge but we may need to ask for some payment to some of the other activities. However, having the vans will allow folks to do some sightseeing, shopping and even get to the casino fairly easily.
Of great importance will be volunteers to drive the vans. We can have three people per van on the contract and such a division of labor will allow each volunteer a chance to enjoy one aspect or other of the reunion; ie, imbibing. Please let me know if you are willing to help out {wpreble@hotmail.com}.
I have received requests for disabled assistance during the reunion. While that would be difficult with the vans Tucson transit does offer that service most everywhere we have an activity, beginning with arrivals and departure at the airport. Please contact
Tucson transit  {http://www.vantran.org/eligibility.htm} and provide them the necessary info to assure transport. Any questions please contact me directly {wpreble@hotmail.com} and I'll do what I can to help.
I will not be providing any schedules this time because we are still putting together activities. It seems there is increased interest in the varied attractions we have around
Tucson so we have contracted with a local vendor {http://www.visittucson.org/tucsonpassport/} for discount books that will be available during "in~processing". Some of the attractions in the booklet include "Old Tucson", "Pima Air & Space Museum" and many more. Our intention is to get those who are interested to the more popular locales while those who have their own vehicles can strike out on their own.
Of late,
Arizona has gotten a lot of negative ink which might lead to questions about whether this is a good time to visit here. All I can say is that the troubles are more hype than substance. All our activities are in locations far removed from the immigration security issues. The recent demonstrations associated with SB1070 took place downtown about four miles and a world away from the Radisson. Of course there are simmering issues but in the end none of these or other issues should deter anyone from coming out and enjoying the reunion. Even with our newly enacted and less publicized concealed weapons law life is not much different.
Let me say now that we will not be offering any trips to
Nogales for any shopping in Mexico only because of the time it takes to cross back into the US, even through the pedestrian gate. That does not mean that folks should not go on their own if they choose to. Check here {http://travel.state.gov/} for travel info into Mexico.
Let me close on a more positive note, the planning is progressing and while I thought this year of planning could not end soon enough now it is coming too quickly to an end. It's coming together so that we can all come together on 6 Oct for a truly grand time.
